Dere Shahr city is located in the east of Ilam province, centered on the city of the same name, and is one of the most historical cities of Ilam province. There are many historical monuments in this county, which indicate the long history of human presence and various governments in the region.

Darehshahr County consists of three districts and six rural districts. The dialect of the people of this county is Lori and Laki. An interesting point about the population distribution in Darehshahr County is the higher percentage of rural residents than urban residents.

The climate of Darreh Shahr is temperate tropical.

According to historical evidence, Dareh Shahr was the site of the ancient city of Madaktu, the capital of the Elamite kingdom. After the Assyrian invasion, the region lost its prosperity and remained far from its peak during the Achaemenid period. Until the Sassanid period, the region was once again developed. During the Sassanid period, the city was known as Seymareh. The remains of this historical city, which dates back to about 1400 years ago, are now located in the east of Dareh Shahr County. The ancient city of Seymareh was registered in 1310 as one of the first historical monuments on the list of national monuments of Iran. Some believe that a terrible earthquake caused the destruction of the city.

The Four Arches or Fire Temple of Dareh Shahr is another historical monument in this city. This building dates back to the Sassanid era.

Bahram Chobin’s Cave is another tourist attraction in Darre Shahr County. According to legends, Bahram, one of the Sassanid generals, hunted in this area. Some also believe that this place was Bahram Chobin’s hideout. Bahram Chobin’s Cave is located in a lush and pleasant area. But in addition, there are a number of historical monuments in this area. Walls have been built on the rocks of this cave to increase security, and traces of stairs still remain. There are also four water cisterns in this area. Unfortunately, many other historical monuments in this area have been destroyed or destroyed over time.

Among the natural tourist attractions of this city are the Darband and Marbareh waterfalls.

Carpet weaving, kilim weaving, and jajim weaving are among the handicrafts of the people of Darehshahr. The embossed kilim is one of the most important handicrafts of this region. Local souvenirs of this region include animal fat and local butter, mountain honey, Peji Bar Saq sweets, Kaleh Konji, and Kak.
