Mehran is one of the important border cities of Iran, located in Ilam Province. Mehran is only a few kilometers away from the Iran-Iraq border and is considered one of the land crossings between Iran and Iraq. The city is about one hundred kilometers away from Ilam, the provincial capital.

Mehran was attacked many times during the Iran-Iraq War, and the Iraqi army occupied the city several times. Until Mehran was liberated on June 10, 1986. Mehran had been attacked by the Iraqi army even before the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Currently, what makes Mehran an important and influential city is the flow of pilgrims to the holy shrines from this city. Every year, on the occasion of Arbaeen, tens of thousands of people from our country travel to Iraq via the Mehran land border every day. Mehran is one of the most active land borders in Iran. In addition to the passage of pilgrims, part of the export of goods to Iraq is also carried out through this border.

Mehran city is located in a fertile region and has many agricultural fields around it. Many people in Mehran are engaged in agriculture.

Imamzadeh Seyyed Hassan Ibn Musa Kazem and Imamzadeh Ali Saleh are two famous shrines in Mehran County. In addition, the remnants of the Iran-Iraq War, including war shelters, are part of the attractions of contemporary Iranian history in Mehran County.

Mehran Airport was active many years ago, but has been abandoned for a long time now. The purpose of building Mehran Airport was to fly spraying planes, but when these planes ceased to fly, the airport’s operations also ceased. Although some news was announced recently that the airport would be revived and rebuilt.

Zingan Cave is one of the natural tourist attractions of Mehran County, which welcomes many tourists every year in the summer. The air in this area is cool and pleasant compared to the surrounding areas, which is why it is also called the Cave of Paradise. The important point about Zingan Cave is that this cave is actually a gorge that has been mistakenly called a cave. Water also flows along the path of this gorge and attractive views can be seen in it. Zingan Cave is located near Saleh Abad district.

Black chador, carpet and giveh are some of the handicrafts of Mehran, and the embossed kilim can be considered the most important handicraft of the people of this city. Local bread, local dairy products and okra are also among the souvenirs of Mehran.
